Garbage in . . . garbage out!

Ok, so Maddy and I were riding back from the grocery store yesterday. My regular Christian radio station was giving me static due to all the storms in the area. So, I started scanning the stations. I guess I hit the seek instead of scan button so the scanner stopped on the next available station. Well unbeknownst to me it was a pop station. And the lyrics I heard coming out were downright appalling! They went something like this . . .

"Baby we can keep it on the low
Let your guard down ain’t nobody gotta know
If you with it girl I know a place we can go

N: What kind of girl do you take me for?

Chorus-

Promiscuous girl
Wherever you are
I’m all alone
And it's you that I want

N: Promiscuous boy
You already know
That I’m all yours
What you waiting for?

Promiscuous girl
You're teasing me
You know what I want
And I got what you need

N: Promiscuous boy
Let's get to the point
Cause we're on a roll
Are you ready?"

Here is where you can find all the lyrics -- not that I'm suggesting that in anyway, you head over there.

Is this what good music has come to? I know I'm alittle out of the loop, but OH.MY.GOSH! I mean, at least in the 60's, 70's, and 80's, sexual innuendo was hidden inside the lyrics. Well not anymore people. They're just putting it all out there now. And you know what's scary . . . there's little teenage girls singing these lyrics and not even knowing what they mean (or maybe they do -- even more frightening). They just know that the music has a cool beat and it's being sung by one of their favorite artist. It frightens me to think just how far people have crawled . . . no slithered, away from God. When did this kind of music become the norm. I'm sure had I left my dial on that station, I would have heard more.

As a parent, I became painfully aware that I need to know that this music exists. After all, I need to know what were up against. I couldn't help but want to think of ways to invent ear muffs for Maddy and Lacy. Ear muffs that only hear what I have to say. Ok, not really . . . but it was a real reality check for me.

So, to all parents out there . . . beware! Know what your children are listening to --- Know what your children are watching.

Garbage in . . . garbage out!

You're so right--the popular radio stations are a mine field!

We try to only have them listen to CD's that we have approved and purchased, but I know they sneak the radio on in their rooms.

At least when we're in the car, and a "bad song" comes on, they know to spin the dial! We talk a lot about the lyrics of songs they like and what kind of "food for the mind and heart" they are--or not. Like you say, some of it's simply garbage.

Unbelievable! How can parents sit on their hands and not be calling stations, boycotting, whatever it takes to get rid of that stuff? Pianomum
